In our course, Urban Planning and Architecture are taught equally. The program alternates between large scale and detail, between abstract and concrete, between theory and practice. In one sentence, we think that architecture is more than building houses and urban planning is more than deciding where to place them.
Both disciplines are contextual. Not only the use of a structure, but its context (e.g. landscape, infrastructure, social needs) determine the design. The question of the house of the future is closely connected with the question of the city of the future. Both questions need to be addressed from a social, spatial, ecological, and economic view....

Description of the Program
This program trains students to apply their complex knowledge in the areas of architecture and urban planning, as well as in the multi-faceted field of environment formation in general (architectural design, town and country planning, preservation of built heritage, structural design, construction work, management and administration tasks, consulting with authorities, teaching, etc.) In addition, students are prepared for their professional planning license once they have gained the prerequisite practical experience as required by the relevant regulations. The final complex design project and the diploma design project are a summary, a synthesis of their studies and serve as a final assessment of their acquired knowledge. During training, studies are complemented by Scientific Students' Conference projects prepared with the co-operation of students and tutors (the latter also being in charge of supervising their work). Within the professional field of architecture, students acquire individual expertise in a specific field and can apply for admission to the DLA&PhD degree program based on their specialization. The DLA&PhD program operates within the framework of an accredited doctoral school at the institute....

Architecture is a powerful tool we use to transform our environment in order to make it a better place. More than ever as architects, but also as citizens of this world, we are aiming to design artifacts, buildings, and cities that not only reflect our dreams, creativity, ambitions as individuals and as societies but are also respectful towards our world and its inhabitants. Our program emphasizes the responsibility of architects for their impact on the environment. Our graduates will contribute to a new understanding of design based on an ethically responsible approach towards the environment and thus, will become involved actively in the creation of a better world. We envision a future where our graduates lead the way to developing more environmentally resilient ways of designing not only in Turkey but also all around the world. ...

Architecture is the art and science of building. Its activities encompass the design, development, and planning of the built environment as well as managing the construction process. Architects play the key role in creating buildings and habitats that serve as integrated solutions to issues and contexts as diverse as design, research, practice, construction, socio-culture, human behavior, history, and the environment. An architect’s design could extend from working places and simple individual living to communal and urban living of the society. Such role demands highly professional and ethical individuals in creating a better-built environment. The Bachelor of Science in Architecture programme at UTM is designed to produce individuals that can fulfill this role....
