At the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, founded on intellectual and academic freedom, students will learn to take risks and be open to brave initiatives. The research fields in our department include distributed computing, cryptography, advanced database systems, cloud computing, social media, and artificial intelligence. In addition, students will gain exposure to engineering ethics, engineering processes and entrepreneurship, and will gain a foundation that is serious, strong, theoretical and based on practice. They will graduate from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering with knowledge and skills to make abstraction and analysis, with a high capacity for design and solution.
Computer Science and Engineering
In the 20th century, computer science and engineering broadly meant computer programming, communication and information systems designed and built by computer engineers, and other computer engineering efforts such as special purpose and mission-critical computer systems research and development. In the 21st century, we are experiencing a dramatic shift from the intra-disciplinary, and isolated computer science and engineering of the past century to more interdisciplinary, open, and collaborative computer science and engineering.
Today, computer scientists and engineers work closely with domain experts from a wide range of fields from biology and medicine to sociology and economics in order to design and build human facing information systems. Together, we are trying to understand more deeply how our society evolved in the way it is and how our environment has changed during this time, and most importantly shape how our tomorrow will look. The rapid advancement in information and communication technology has created abundant opportunities for us, the computer scientists to constantly reshape our future at an ever-accelerating pace. From self-driving cars to drones facilitating e-commerce, to 3D printed human organs and to remotely controlled robot-assisted surgery, our future looks intertwined with technology.
