BSC (Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation
The BSc (Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation is a 3-year degree aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in policing or in the wider criminal investigative and security sector. The BSc has a practical focus with employability integrated into the course. There is a high level of face-to-face tuition. The modules are delivered predominantly by professionally qualified lawyers or ex-police professionals. Students will study a range of key topics in the area of crime, criminology, law, associated psychology, and criminal investigation and acquire the core skills that are critical for working policing and criminal investigation. There is a small choice of options in Year 2 and 3, but the programme is designed to be cohesive and give a broad foundation which maximizes employment opportunities. The course is delivered over two semesters per academic year. By the end of this 3-year programme, the student will have a good understanding of policing in its broader sense, in a national and transnational arena. They will have covered topics as diverse as intelligence and security, fraud and financial crime, international war crimes, and human rights investigation. In addition, they will have acquired skills in the areas of criminal psychology, evidence and procedure, applied the criminal law, and have a broad understanding of crime and its impact on society.
- BBB at A Level and Grade C/4 or above in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent qualifications. Students under the age of 18, but no younger than 17, are able to apply for our Birmingham, London Bloomsbury and Manchester centers only.
- International: An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
