What you will study
Our BSc Computing and Information Technology course will enable you to build strong technical knowledge together with a functional management focus.
Through a lively mix of teaching methods, you’ll learn about information security management and business finance, software engineering, programming and new developments in computing – particularly emerging web and cloud technologies.
In the last year of this programme, you will conduct a final year project that will allow you to develop transferrable skills, such as independent research, presentation and time management.
Our Department has an excellent network of contacts within the industry to ensure a smooth transition from University into the world of work.
You may choose to take a Professional Training placement, where you can gain invaluable industry-relevant experience and a head start when you enter the job market.

Required subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Computing or Software Systems Development.
Please note: A-level General Studies and A-level Critical Thinking are not accepted.
GCSE or equivalent: English Language at Grade C(4) and Mathematics at Grade B(5) (or equivalent).
English language requirements
IELTS Academic: 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each element.
If you do not currently meet the level required for your programme, we offer intensive pre-sessional English language courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies here.
You have the option to complete a Professional Training placement as part of this course. This will give you the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, helping to prepare you for your future career.
A significant proportion of placement students at Surrey are offered graduate-level jobs or go onto postgraduate study.
Computing and Information Technology placements
Many computing and information technology students continue working with their placement employers by basing their final-year project on work related to their placement. This results in a project with a strong industrial focus that can demonstrate their ability to apply their academic knowledge to real-world problems.
The Professional Training year counts towards the experience required for professional membership of the British Computer Society (BCS).

Study and work abroad
We give our students the opportunity to acquire international experience during their studies by taking advantage of our exchange agreements with overseas universities or by completing a Professional Training placement abroad.

You may wish to spend your Professional Training placement working in another country.
