From day one, you’ll develop the theoretical and practical skills needed to succeed as an accountant or finance professional. You will study a variety of subjects, which involve learning about the business environment and people management, as well as the fundamentals of accounting and finance.

Working in finance involves many skills as you interact with so many different departments. Communication, engagement, forecasting and analysing all become part of your armoury when you graduate.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn about financial and management accounting and the business and regulatory environment in which businesses operate. You’ll also learn about financial management and the role of the financial markets and key financial institutions.
A major part of this course involves developing relevant practical skills to prepare you for employment. For example, you’ll learn how to:
- Manipulate, analyse and interpret financial and non-financial data.
- Prepare financial reports.
- Apply accounting principles and techniques to a range of business problems.
You’ll also learn how to appraise evidence, present and communicate clearly, work in a team and conduct independent research when required, such as when preparing a final-year project on a topic of your choice.
Support towards your ACCA qualification

At Bucks, we help you work towards your ACCA or CIMA, ICAEW and IFA professional qualification. After graduating, you’ll be able to apply for exemption from all nine ACCA papers at the fundamental level. You’ll only have to pass four papers at the professional level to become ACCA affiliates. We also have CIMA, ICAEW and IFA exemptions.
You also need three years experience if you want to join the ACCA. We can help you find that experience during your studies if you wish.
The nine ACCA papers that Bucks graduates on the Accounting and Finance degree are exempt from including the following:

- F3 - Financial Accounting
- F4 - Corporate and Business Law
- F5 - Performance Management
- F6 - UK Taxation
- F7 - Financial Reporting
- F8 - Audit and Assurance Services
- F9 - Financial Management
If you have included the following units in their programme of study, you will also be eligible for membership of the Institute of Financial Accountants at Associate level:
- Management Accounting plus Advanced Management Accounting
- UK Taxation
- Accounting Systems for Business Organisations plus Financial Reporting and Management
- International Auditing
- International Finance
Transcripts must be provided by students to confirm the award of membership/exemptions.
What are the course entry requirements?
A typical offer will require a UCAS Tariff score between 80 - 104. A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required. Every application is considered on an individual basis.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for the three-year undergraduate programme, or those who do not feel fully prepared for a degree course, can apply for a four-year programme including a Foundation Year.

What are my career prospects?
This course is designed to help you apply for registration with the professional bodies in accounting and finance. Most Accounting and Finance graduates choose employment that enables further study with a view to gaining a full professional qualification and a career in accounting and/or finance.
You could also use your degree (and the more general business and personal skills you’ll have developed) as a foundation for a career in general management in a wide range of organisations. Many students will go on to study for professional accountancy qualifications offered by bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA. Your degree should enable you to gain a number of exemptions from their examination requirements.
