BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year* (*Subject to approval)

Our BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year* is a four-year degree. The teaching team includes practising criminologists at some centres. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of cutting edge criminological and sociological theorising and will be able to apply this to current socio-economic policies and conditions. In order to achieve this, students will develop a critical understanding of criminology and sociology in relation to current issues such as urbanisation, embodiment, family, globalisation, marginalisation and migration. Criminology and Sociology will be considered from a fresh perspective using feminist, critical, cultural, and race critiques to revisit societal issues. The course is aimed at students who may not be served by the current sociology/criminology degree courses in research-led universities. The first year is a Foundation Year, which students study alongside our LLB (Law) students and is taught by our law tutors. This year focuses on developing the key skills required to undertake degree level study, both academic and legal/professional related learning. The subsequent three years then follow our full-time BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology course*.... [-]

Travel into the human psyche

Psychology is the science of human emotion, thought and behavior, including neural, physiological and cognitive processes; developmental factors and individual differences; and interpersonal, international, and cross-cultural components. The Psychology major is designed to expose students to a spectrum of basic issues currently being addressed in the discipline, the principles of research design and statistics, and theory and research in specific areas of psychology. Students with this major or minor have also pursued careers in business, healthcare, social services, communications, social media, education, human resources and other fields since psychology coursework provides the knowledge of human behavior, analytical thinking, communication and teamwork skills, as well as the sensitivity and comfort with diversity sought by employers. The psychology major at Franklin University may be completed on campus or in conjunction with a Franklin partner institution. For students interested in an intensive laboratory experience, a semester abroad during the spring semester of the third year of study is strongly recommended. Selection of coursework and research experiences at the partner institution is completed in conjunction with the Franklin psychology advisor and approved by the Dean of Academic Affairs. The current partner institution is Southern Methodist University (S.M.U.) in Dallas, Texas. Students may also choose to fulfill the requirement at another institution in close... [-]

Political Science degree provides students with knowledge in three core areas of Political Science: political thought, political systems and public policy. Political Science is taught using a range of methods which reflect the international student body, whilst making the best use of emerging technologies. The study of political ideologies, theories and ideas is balanced against the practical study of policy-making across a wide range of themes and issue-areas, and political processes in a wide range of states and regions. Students enjoy a broad study of political thinkers and theories, whilst directly engaging with a range of practical policy issues, in many different national and regional settings. The British Politics course, for example, is partially taught in the Houses of Parliament. The degree also recognises the international dimension of political, economic and policy processes, and ensures students are familiar with the politics of the developing world. Students develop the methodological and technical skills of the social sciences, making the best use of new technologies and practices. The courses also ensure that students in other majors can gain a sufficient understanding of Political Science to help conceptualise the political dimensions of their chosen fields. The programme provides a background both for further postgraduate study and future careers, including work in government, international organisations, business, finance and the media. Students also take a range of optional courses in national, regional and globalisation studies, or addressing thematic areas of contemporary interest, allowing for specialisation within the degree according to student interest.... The Bachelor of Arts Psychology course at the International Psychoanalytic University imparts psychology as a science which maps the human as a social and cultural being. Students learn how human individuals develop themselves in social and societal contexts, how they shape and structure their surroundings, how they become mentally ill under unfavourable conditions, and how they can become healthy again in a conducive relationship bond using psychological means.

Psychoanalytical psychology has been developed in practice and it has to prove itself in real applications. The intention with the course is to reflect the interdependence between theory formation on the one hand and application on the other: The students learn, in close contact with practice, how psychological concepts emerge from the practical resolution of concrete problems and impact on them in turn. One essential aspect here is that the graduates from this study course become capable of working independently in the field of psychology; to this extent, the BA PsychologyPLUS at the IPU is intended to provide a long-term qualification for a professional career in psychology. The study course has been approved and officially accredited until 2017 by the Berlin Senate.... [-]
