Content and structure of the degree programme Students take a variety of modules for which they gain credits. Credits are based on the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS). One ECTS credit assumes a student workload of 25 to 30 hours. Altogether there are 28 five-credit modules and a small number of 2 or 3 credit modules. In the 4th semester students spend a minimum of 12 weeks, but more usually six months doing an internship, for which they earn 20 credits. In their sixth and final semester the students also write an 11,000 word, academic dissertation, which is worth 10 credits. The total Bachelor of Arts degree involves earning a minimum of 180 ECTS credits. An overview of the modules The core of the degree consists of 11 Economics and Management Modules, which include Business, Marketing, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Human Resource Management, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. There are eight modules related to communications, including three English Language modules, Public Speaking and Intercultural Communications. Several of the modules have a high intercultural content, in particular Intercultural Communications and Business Culturess. A further eight modules emphasise the international nature of the degree. Earlier modules in Economics, Marketing and Human Resource Management are followed by modules such as International Marketing, International Economics and International Human Resource Management. International Business Law, International Sales Management, International Corporate Governance & Ethics and International Politics & Organisations follow, making it clear that this is truly a degree course about “international business” and not just another Business Degree.
