You can earn a Bachelor of Arts, or BA, at an accredited university. Programs usually take about four years to complete, though there are exceptions depending on your schedule and work ethic. Having a BA can help qualify you for a career or more advanced programs of study in arts or humanities, such as a PhD program.

What is a BA in Japanese? It is designed to help those interested in delving deeper into the language, culture and history of Japan. The language itself is usually the main area of focus, but there may be courses that center on Japanese literature or art. Language courses usually entail speaking, reading and writing. These classes can be further broken down into different subjects. For example, speaking classes can be categorized into elementary, intermediate, or conversational. Reading and writing classes can focus on hiragana, katakana or kanji or focus on all three.

Learning a new language may help strengthen your overall memorization skills. Your BA in Japanese should also allow you to converse with others in both professional and casual settings as well as teach you to read literature with ease, granting you a greater understanding of the culture.

The cost will depend on the length of the program and the type of institution you choose to enroll in. Make sure to choose the program that fits perfectly with your budget and your preferences.

After graduating, you could become a professional interpreter for a business or government agency, allowing two parties to understand one another during meetings or translating official documents released by the government. You can also become an interpreter for a hospital or in a courtroom. You can use your translation skills in overseas publishing, journalism and even in the entertainment industry. Another career path involving your expertise in the Japanese language and culture is in academia, where you can become an educator at either the secondary or college level.

Programs are available at universities around the world. There are even programs and courses available to take online. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.
