Introduction

Labour Studies addresses the need for academic development and training at the leadership level. Further, it seeks to equip students with contemporary knowledge and in the Labour and Industrial Relations realm. The program places particular emphasis on developing the critical, analytical, and organizational skills required to manage industrial and employment relations. It also addresses trade union administration and explores gender relations in the workplace, economics, and powerful institutions in society.  Qualifications in this discipline give professionals and practitioners the edge when applying for Industrial Relations, Labour and Manpower, Economics, and Human Resource Management positions. You will learn about: Industrial Arbitration, Mediation, and Collective Bargaining Employment Law Women in the Workplace Grievance Handling Principles of Labour Law Collective Bargaining The program aims to address the need for high-quality academic and practical training for practitioners and professionals in the following fields: Industrial Relations, Trade Union Leadership and Administration, Labour and Manpower Economics, Labour Inspection.  Additionally, based on the principles of good industrial relations practice and the ILO’s focus on advancing social protection and decent work, the program seeks to improve general management, supervision, and human resource management in the public and private sectors, NGOs, and workers’ organizations.  The Bachelor of Arts Degree targets the following: Current and future labour leaders, General union membership, Practitioners in IR Consultancy, HR practitioners, Non-union workers, and various managerial, supervisory, and administrative officeholders.
