The Department of International Trade and Management at İstanbul Şehir University has been designed with the objective to successfully cultivate international business administrators with a global vision who can keep up with the constantly changing structure of the international business environment.
At the Department of International Trade and Management, we aim to cultivate the executive candidates of the future and business administrators who will internalize the fundamental principles and rules of international trade and management not only in Turkey but also in the world at large, who will communicate fluently in more than one foreign language and contribute to our country’s achievement of a good position in the global economy.
International Trade and Management
With the widespread usage of the internet and lower cost of transportation, today, firms with various sizes involved in international trade. The value of world trade in merchandises and services by 2016 is nearly twice as high as in 2005*. Turkey is the EU's 4th largest export market and 5th largest provider of imports. Firms competing through international trade in merchandises and services need to work with professionals who know the dynamics of international factors in trade, manage and benefit from cultural differences, and also communicate through both oral and written English in a fluent way.
International trade and management education provide specialization in international factors on basic management discipline. It aims first to understand the main organs of a business such as finance, marketing, operations, and accounting, and then recognize the international differences and risks in each of these functions. A professional specialized in international trade will have the knowledge to admit the effects of currency changes on a multinational firm’s worldwide production decisions, the impact of oil prices on import/export balance, and international factors to be concerned by a multinational firm in a new market. Moreover, a graduate of international trade will have the necessary skills to utilize information technology in any business function, observe and prepare various documents needed for international trade operations, and also communicate professionally for corporate purposes in both oral and written form.
As of 2016-2017 academic year, İstanbul Şehir University International Trade and Management Department has around 400 active undergraduate enrollments from 41 different nationalities with the medium of instruction as English. An extremely broad range of international backgrounds brings a large spectrum of interests and approaches to learning. This benefits all students in terms of gaining international communication skills and a diverse international network before graduation. Contemporary theories and practices are shared with students by a faculty with diverse academic and practical backgrounds. Our students receive hands-on training through internships programs supported by the department. Moreover, our students pursue double-degree or minor programs for gaining an interdisciplinary perspective in various areas such as industrial engineering, political science, sociology, and etc.
ŞEHİR International Trade and Management Department is designed in terms of its educational and cultural background to raise the business people and entrepreneurs of the future who will contribute to our country to get a better position in the global economy and to the global trade to evolve. ŞEHİR International Trade and Management graduates, like you, have both theoretical and practical educational background can be employed in international institutions, public or private manufacturing and service firms, non-governmental organizations, and research centers in specialist and managerial positions.
