BA in English
This degree allows you to study texts from throughout English literary history, from Beowulf to Alice Munro's The View from Castle Rock (2007).
You will learn to analyse texts and account for the influence of form and structure on their meanings. You will learn to delve below the surface of texts to discover possible messages, attitudes and concerns. You will study key literary movements, theories and periods of history that have contributed to the development of particular forms and traditions, and learn to apply this knowledge. You will be introduced to critical discourse on literature through the study of a variety of critical essays. You will develop the ability to form articulate, cogent arguments.
