The major in English Literature and Linguistics strives to enable students to develop effective communication skills.
It develops students’ appreciation for the diversities of languages and cultures and familiarizes students with linguistics, its sub-branches, applications, and relations to other disciplines. It introduces students to the various literary genres of English in their historical, cultural, and artistic contexts. It helps students’ development of critical thinking skills and enhances their ability to produce logical and well-structured arguments. The program is available for Females.

Graduates with a major in English Literature and Linguistics will be qualified to work as English teachers, translators, and in the fields of communication and language industry. They could also work in mass media organizations: newspapers, radio, and television.
In addition, they could work in non-governmental organizations, the private sector, international aid and development agencies, community services, social organizations, and research organizations. They may also pursue graduate studies in linguistics or literature.
The Department of English Literature and Linguistics consists of four components: English Literature, Linguistics, Translation, and Writing. With our Department, the student can obtain a Major in English with concentrations in either Literature or Linguistics, as well as Minors in English and in Translation.
The mission of the Department of English Literature and Linguistics is to provide quality, student-centered education that enables its students to cultivate and enhance their knowledge and understanding of English literature and linguistics. The learning and research environment equips students with the cognitive skills needed to use English effectively and creatively in various contexts, as well as general analytical and critical thinking skills. This will ultimately help our graduates meet the challenges of their professional careers, their community, and national needs, in addition to being aware and appreciative of the language, literature, and cultures of others.
Career Development Center
The Career Development Center provides counseling, training, and professional development services and helps to prepare students to engage and compete for the best career opportunities. It specializes in providing QU students with student employment during their study at QU. Additionally; the Center assists students with sponsorship, internship, and full-time job opportunities and provides numerous career-related resources, programs, and activities.
