Marketing Communication Honours Theory: In the dynamic and continually developing the field of Marketing Communication with a contemporary move towards Integrated Brand Communication with an increasing emphasis on strategic conceptualization, a need has emerged for a course that deals with relevant industry-related issues.
The aim of this Degree is to provide a critical reflexive orientation towards both the theoretical and applied principles of Marketing Communication. Consequently, the learner will be provided with extensive theoretical and practical application within the field of Marketing Communication, which will enable them to pursue an integrated career within the field. The focus is on experiential learning with a strong branding emphasis and incorporates direct exposure to the industry. Furthermore, throughout the year professional presentation skills will be developed. Marketing Communication Theory investigates current and relevant contemporary issues in the field of Marketing Communication and also deals with contemporary contexts of Marketing Communication. The primary objective is to generate understanding with regard to these issues as well as the practice and principles of the Marketing Communication industry in general.
Marketing Communication Honours Applied: Marketing Communication Applied investigates current and relevant issues in the applied field of Marketing Communication from both a philosophical approach and a hands-on perspective.
The primary objective is to generate understanding with regard to these issues as well as the practice and principles of the Marketing Communication industry in general. As such this course is structured in such a manner as to amplify continual industry contact and provide the learner with numerous opportunities to be exposed to and network with experts in the field of Marketing Communication, both formally and through internships. The outcome hereof is that the learner’s knowledge of what is happening in leading companies in the industry will be heightened through best practice and case studies, as the state of the industry and specific specialisation fields within the industry will be taught from a point of expertise ensuring up-to-date and relevant content that will enable the learner .
Students should have a 65% average for all undergraduate Communication subjects and/or the discretion of the Chairperson of the Department is sought (see General Regulations). If a student intends specializing in a specialist field in which an undergraduate programme was not offered, extended reading and/or an oral examination will be required. Permission may be granted by the Head of the Department to take an Honours module from another subject.
Registration and Start Dates
Registration starts in January and lectures in February for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate course work programmes.
All research programmes for Masters and PhD can register throughout the year.
End Date: Academic starts in January and ends in December. Programme deadline is determined by the duration of the programme.
