Program Description

Communications and the media play an increasingly central role in modern society, economics and politics, making English, the language of global communication, more important than ever before.

As a student of the BA English and Communication Studies programme, you will have access to almost all of the modules offered in the Department of English and School of Film and TV Arts.

The unique level of choice and flexibility available in this programme makes it ideal for both international and domestic students. Like our other English programmes, it offers modules on translation and interpreting between English and Chinese, as well as a unique specialised module on literary translation. However, because these modules are not compulsory, both international and domestic students can follow alternative routes.

Why Should I Study English and Communication Studies at XJLTU?

  • Access a full range of modules in our specialist areas of English language and literature, and communication and media;
  • Have more options than any other degree programme - during Years Two to Four, you can choose 18 modules from more than 40 options; in Years Three and Four all subject modules are optional;
  • Gain an understanding of the changing use of language and other forms of communication, along with the ways in which they inform and influence contemporary society;
  • Earn two degrees: an XJTLU degree from the Chinese Ministry of Education and a globally recognised degree from the University of Liverpool, a member of the Russell Group of leading UK universities.

We were in the 44th teaching building of Tianjin University. I took this graduation photo for my seniors. This is my first shoot in my photography career. Thanks a lot for the opportunity my seniors afford to me.

Knowledge and skills

By the time you graduate from the BA English and Communication Studies, you will have:

  • the skills to communicate professionally in English, within the context of journalism and the media;
  • an understanding of the theories and analytical techniques associated with linguistics, literature, culture and communication;
  • the ability to apply your knowledge and skills to solve practical challenges and problems within the context of journalism and the media;
  • both strong English language skills and a combination of critical and theoretical knowledge;
  • intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills that are highly valued by employers.
