Who is this course for?
Students select their chosen discipline when they apply. However, there is some scope to change the career path or the Business discipline at the end of the initial year of study. Progression from the foundation year is dependent on the students achieving the necessary grades. The Extended Business Administration degree is intended for those who do not meet the normal entry criteria for a BA Hons degree but who have the interest and commitment to study within a Higher Education institution. It is ideally suited for applicants without the appropriate subjects for first-year or for mature applicants with practical experience in business but without the formal academic qualifications. During this additional first year, you will be introduced to a variety of business-related subjects and learning skills to enable you to take advantage of further study.
The Extended Business Administration degree is a four-year programme. With a standard progression, the later 3 years will follow the BA Hons degree programmes as explained in H106M. If an alternative career path is chosen then students can apply internally to programmes offered by the University of Greenwich, this can impact on funding and students should consider this very carefully. The initial year is very project focused on the following modules Introduction to Business Principles, IT Essentials, Foundation Year Project, Learning and Communication skills.
Skills and experience gained
The University provides access to books, journals and computer equipment with general software through the libraries across all three campuses. Students can access these no matter where their programme of study is located. Through its portal and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), students have access to timetables, teaching material, electronic journals, emails, as well as general support and advice. These resources, along with the expertise of the teaching staff, are the backbone of the material you will need to engage with to develop as a student in the School of Engineering. The programme of study you will embark on will move you from a student to a professional, with an array of skills, knowledge and expertise in developing solutions. You will develop as an independent learner, with a vast array of transferable skills, with understanding how to use knowledge and skills in an alternative situation. The programme of study is designed to ensure that you have the confidence and competence to operate in an academic environment, through extended competence in information technology and abilities to communicate ideas to others. You will develop an ability to analyse and conduct research into a variety of subject matters seeking insights and drawing supportable conclusions. You will expand your knowledge in a given subject area, depending upon pathway choice, involving detail and breadth of study coupled with the ability to build and test hypotheses.
