NSU’s Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition program provides you with a strong foundation in anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology as it relates to human nutrition and health, dietetics practice, community programming, and foodservice management. In this program, you’ll have opportunities to conduct research, work on global and domestic outreach initiatives and collaborate with students and faculty at NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our hands-on and interdisciplinary approach to your education will prepare you to excel in this career.

First-year Seminar (3 credits)
Freshmen are required to successfully complete First-Year Seminar (UNIV 1000) in the first semester at NSU.
General Education Requirements (30 credits)

Experiential Learning/Internships
During your undergraduate studies, you’ll have a number of hands-on opportunities to gain real-world experience. You can:
- Experience a stretch class and a meditation session in nature;
- Tour a state-of-the-art Exercise Science Lab;
- Prepare nutrition education materials using a variety of media;
- Deliver presentations for a variety of audiences;
- Conduct a community needs assessment to identify opportunities for nutrition interventions;
- Develop and deliver culturally appropriate nutrition interventions;
- Take advantage of opportunities to become ServeSafe certified.
The Clinic Exploration Program
The Clinic Exploration Program (CEP) offers students the opportunity to shadow medical professionals on the job in many of NSU’s medical and health clinics. Program participants gain a broad perspective that shows how various medical fields work together and a practical, up-close review of several medical career options.
All undergraduate students may take part in CEP, no matter what major they pursue. Each rotation lasts two hours per week, for three weeks. Because this is a volunteer program, member commitments are flexible and voluntary.

With a Bachelor’s in Human Nutrition, you have a lot of flexibility in the job location. You can find employment in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and the foodservice industry, as well as educational and government settings. Popular career options include public health nutrition, wellness promotion, nutritional product development and marketing, nutrition research, and community nutrition programs. Some nutrition graduates pursue professional practice training as Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered.

According to a 2020 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for dietitians and nutritionists was $63,090.
