BSc Sport & Exercise Science

A Sport and Exercise Sciences degree provides you with the undergraduate knowledge and skills required to become an accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist. [+]

A Sport and Exercise Sciences degree provides you with the undergraduate knowledge and skills required to become an accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist. The course blends the three areas of sport and exercise sciences; psychology, physiology and biomechanics, in addition to research and professional placements. You will also study interdisciplinary sport science modules to add to your programme to draw together the three sport science disciplines. At Level 4, you will undertake a full-time work placement, which will incorporate skills gained throughout your first academic year. At Level 5, you may select between a six-week full-time placement or volunteering, both of which are 20-credit modules to develop experience and employability. Teaching staff on the course are significantly involved in research, which ensures that many modules are research-informed and some are research-led. There are opportunities for you to complete a research project or dissertation at level 6, which may align with staff research interests and opportunities to present work externally. Further, Trinity Performance is a sport and exercise science enterprise run by the department offering coach education, consultancy and fitness assessments where students can get involved to offer them first-hand experience of sport and exercise science. Benefits of Sport and Exercise Sciences The programme has been developed in order to achieve endorsement from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). Requirements for the BASES Undergraduate Endorsement Scheme (BUES). International opportunities through study abroad, volunteering or placements overseas. Professional work placements. There are opportunities for real-life sport and exercise science experience working with athletes. Graduate Destinations Graduates can go into successful careers as a Sports and Exercise Scientist. Employability skills developed throughout the course will give graduates opportunities within and outside of sport. This course develops a range of employability skills due to the diverse nature of different scientific domains contained within the course. It will also enable you to progress onto a BASES-accredited postgraduate course or accredit prior learning if you wish to undertake a BPS conversion course and train as a psychologist. Prerequisites Typically our entry offer for this degree is 280 UCAS Tariff points. You usually need to have a minimum of five qualifications: at least two of these should be full A2 Levels (or accepted equivalent Level 3 qualifications); at least one of these should be GCSE English Language at grade C or above (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). In addition you will need GCSE in Maths and Science at grade C or above. We consider most qualifications in the UCAS Tariff. [-]

In addition, you will get a strong grounding in key business principles, including an overview of core management functions, operations, economics, marketing, legal issues and the external business environment. If you’ve got your sights set on becoming a professional accountant, we know the studying doesn’t stop with your degree. You’ll need to complete a professional qualification with organisations like the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the global body for professional accountants. We want to help you get to your career faster, so we’ve designed our modules in line with the ACCA so you can acquire credits towards your ACCA qualification whilst you study, giving you maximum exemptions against your professional exams.* Studying Accounting and Business at Leeds Trinity University will broaden your career options. We welcome students with a range of qualifications including A Levels, AS Levels, BTEC Nationals, Advanced and Progressions Diplomas, NVQs, GNVQs and accredited Access Courses. We treat every application on its own merits; we value highly the experience you illustrate in your personal statement. Other requirements: GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent qualification). You do not need to have studied Business previously as the first year will provide you with the necessary foundation knowledge and skills. A working knowledge of computer word-processing, spreadsheets and presentation software is desirable, though not essential. Assessment A variety of assessment methods are used, matched to the learning outcomes for the programme, to enable students to demonstrate the full range of knowledge and skills that they have developed. There is some scope for students to be involved in negotiating and evaluating some assessment. On this programme there are some assessments which are marked on a pass/fail basis rather than graded. Please note that these assessments are excluded from the calculations made to produce the figures published in the Key Information Set (KIS) for this programme/subject. Assessment in Accounting and Business additionally enables students to gain exemption from all or part of the Foundation stage examinations for ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). The purpose of the programme is to provide the essential knowledge, understanding and skills required for graduates to begin to operate competently and effectively within the international business and management environment at entry-level management positions. It is a 3 year full-time programme (6 years part-time), but, depending on your interests, it may contain work-based international business research projects and a study abroad option. As part of the course, you will also undertake two six-week professional work placements (one in the UK and one in an international setting). The degree isn’t just classroom-based, you will have field trips and meet guest speakers from various sectors of the economy from international giants like ASDA/Wal-Mart to Yorkshire craft beer and food manufacturers. Depending on your interest and, sometimes the knowledge of international languages, you may explore a range of study abroad options in such countries as France, Spain, China, Russia, Australia, USA. Benefits of International Business Our lecturers have significant business experience and have worked for major international companies like Nestle, Bacardi and Procter & Gamble.
