We team up with key our cultural associates when this adds value for our students. For example we share sporting facilities with the University of Cambridge: our home football pitch is at Pembroke College where students experience high-quality facilities as well as an insight into university life. Cambridge has so much to offer and our teaching and residential sites are within minutes of indoor tennis courts, top-class sports pitches, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and sports halls. Tutors and staff The CCSS system Underpinning the unique style of CCSS is a pastoral system that encourages effective communication between all staff, students and parents. Every student is allocated a personal tutor who works closely with them and their parents, teachers and boarding staff throughout their time at CCSS. We share a common goal: to ensure that students make an effective transition to independence and responsibility. During their time at CCSS, students will be supported in achieving academic success, personal development and a rich cultural and extra-curricular experience. Working with every individual The Tutorial Team consists of over 20 experienced and dedicated staff who meet their tutees individually on a weekly basis. The “tutorial” affords protected time to consider issues such as: Help with study, time management and revision skills Monitoring progress and providing feedback Support in liaising with teaching staff to help you overcome subject specific difficulties Opportunities for discussing any personal concerns Referrals to our SEND department should particular difficulties with the learning process arise Guidance on choosing appropriate degree courses with specialist Careers Profiling Intensive assistance with the UCAS application process and personal statement preparation Applications to appropriate university information and Taster Days e.g. Engineering Experience placements/medical work shadowing/Law Workshops and Headstart Courses Encouraging you to make the most of the educational and cultural opportunities of being in Cambridge e.g. University of Cambridge open public lecture programme, and The Institute of Astronomy public lectures. If you have not been studying GCSEs we assess your application individually. As each overseas country has its own education system there is no single entry requirement. Our experience in evaluating overseas school transcripts and examination certification (from Europe, Asia, Africa, the CIS, the US, etc.) means that we will be able to make an informed decision quite quickly, based on your past or upcoming qualifications. Reports and transcripts from your current or previous schools will be important. Online programmes in partnership with Laureate Online Education. 134 academic staff. Public and private sector focus with numerous clients / partners. International outlook and opportunities, including links with Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in China. Mission Statement Learning to make a difference The theme of our mission is “Learning to Make a Difference”: we strive to make a difference in the lives of individuals, enterprise and communities. This is the purpose of our research and teaching. For our students we strive to build excellence in our teaching and create an overall learning environment to equip our students with the knowledge, skills and aptitudes to make a contribution to the major challenges of today and unknown challenges for the future whether as citizens, organisational practitioners or managers. We expect our students work or will work in every continent in the world. Therefore, we test this mission not only in Liverpool but with our partner institution in China (XJTLU) and our online programmes where we make quality education available to working professionals who want a more flexible approach to learning how to solve problems across cultures and international timelines. For our academic faculty we expect that our teaching will be informed by research and our research not only is recognised as being internationally excellent or world class but makes a real difference to business leaders and policy makers. This is also one way we ensure that what we teach our students is going to be relevant to them as they progress their degrees. Our research needs to have impact on society. We are also part of a larger community of scholars working in areas to meet critical global challenges. We see our role as being a bridge between the world of ideas and the marketplace. For recruiters we provide graduates of outstanding potential as organisational practitioners and managers able to operate in the contemporary environments and circumstances of global business. For the larger community we are proud to be part of a developing region with a rich industrial history. But we also recognise that this is a community that faces enormous economic challenges and we believe that we can contribute to that development. We learn to make a difference by leveraging our knowledge to make the Liverpool region a better place. Our starting point is that all activities in the School are founded on internationally excellent or world class scholarship. Therefore, we endeavour to make a major contribution to learning in all the major disciplines of management. What makes our scholarship distinctive is our belief that many of the major problems in management cannot be solved in isolated silos. We aim to build flexible and interdisciplinary groups - “Knowledge Platforms”. But the connection with business leaders and policy makers is also fundamental to how we teach. This has influenced over the last few years how we teach our MBA students using visiting speakers and practical placements, the design of our MSc degrees using placements and introduction of 4 year (with a year in industry) undergraduate degrees. In summary: We desire that our students become more than good managers and great leaders. They must be able to make a significant contribution in their roles and in the long-term play a part in solving some of the most endemic problems individuals, companies and communities face. Our academic members of faculty need to publish in leading scholarly journals. However, this is not enough. Insights from our academic research must become available to executives and policy makers and make a real difference to helping them grasp opportunities and solve the problems they face. Our knowledge exchange activities like our teaching in degree programmes must help participants and companies make a significant contribution. These must further reinforce and extend scholarly research. Executive Education programmes The University of Liverpool Management School recognises the value of Executive Education to you and your company. We offer learning that is designed around solving organisational challenges. Using blended learning solutions we can integrate your educational needs into your busy lifestyles whilst leveraging your career to the next level.
