Measurable student outcomes - Forbes Magazine ranks WJU in the top 10% of all colleges in the nation. Again this past year, WJU was named a regional leader in the U.S. News & World Report. For the past decade, our students have achieved near 100% acceptance rates for graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, law and engineering. This past academic year, 100% of our students who applied passed their certification boards in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Athletic Training and Physical Therapy. Business The business program will provide you with a basic understanding of the nature and purpose of business and its role in society, as well as a general knowledge of the structure and processes of business. You will take courses in accounting, finance, marketing, management and economics, among others. The program focuses on analytical skills and the constantly growing array of software applicable to business. It also addresses the dynamic global, social, political, economic and technical environments in which businesses operate. Communication, leadership and analytical skills and experience working effectively in teams are fundamental elements of the program. Accounting The accountancy program will prepare you for a career in public accounting, industry, not-for-profit organizations and government. You will receive sound preparation for successful graduate study in business, law and other areas. Our business faculty brings many years of professional and academic experience to the classroom. In fact, each has more than 20 years of teaching experience in higher education. Their professional experience includes positions as corporate executives, forensic economists, military officers, stockbrokers and certified public accountants. They have written books and articles for national publications, appeared on national television programs and served as expert witnesses in legal cases. In addition to the courses from your chosen area of concentration, you will be required to take courses in business skills where you will learn through guest speakers, tours of businesses and etiquette dinners, among other ways. You also will benefit from experiences beyond the classroom by joining our award-winning Student's in Free Enterprise Club and Delta Mu Delta, the honor society for international business. You also will have the opportunity to attend a series of nationally renowned speakers, which is hosted by our own Institute for the Study of Capitalism and Morality. The goals of the psychology department at Wheeling Jesuit University are to provide a strong curriculum that will help you learn the most current and empirically sound principles of behavior; to equip you for success in a variety of graduate programs and employment settings; to offer you opportunities for experience in human service, research and other psychology-related internships; and to help you realize the many ways through which psychology can address human social/ethical concerns. In keeping with the Jesuit tradition of education, the emphasis is on you as you develop intellectually, socially, emotionally and spiritually. The person is always at the center of what we do. Through internships, research and coursework, we help you discover your talents and learn how best to use them in psychology. You will have access to more than $250,000 worth of equipment for supporting your studies and research. Our students regularly attend research conferences where they present their work, and have their projects published. Our job is not done until you are ready for the next step. Many students are offered employment right after college, following their internships. About two-thirds of our students go directly to graduate school-in a variety of different fields. The evidence for how our majors are taught and able to perform comes from the Psychology ETS Exam (a standardized psychology exam). Wheeling Jesuit requires students to perform within the top 15 percent nationally on this exam as a pre-requisite to graduation. Recent graduates have scored in the top 1 to 2 percent nationally, placing Wheeling Jesuit among the best universities for studying psychology. In addition to pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, you may take coursework in specialty areas within the department. These areas of concentration include: Mental Health Sciences - Enhance your readiness for graduate study in several fields, such as medicine, counseling, nursing, social services, pharmacology, psychiatry and special education. You also will be prepared for immediate employment in a number of human service agencies. Behavioral Psychopharmacology - Enhance your eligibility for employment or further study in fields such as pharmacy, medicine, biology, nursing, psychiatry, physical therapy, sports medicine, athletic training and other health-related industries or occupations. Cognitive Neuroscience - This concentration reflects the field's inherently interdisciplinary nature by combining strengths from several academic departments, such as psychology, biology, chemistry and philosophy. Enhance your readiness for graduate study in several fields, such as medicine, biology, philosophy, nursing, pharmacology, law, psychiatry, criminal justice, biochemistry, special education and physical therapy.
