Bachelor’s in General Business Administration "There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure." — Colin Powell Program Overview USFSM’s General Business Administration program prepares students for positions in an interdisciplinary business world that values cross-functional abilities. This program offers two concentrations: Applied Business and Aging Services Management. The Applied Business concentration covers an overview of several administrations at a variety of businesses and organizations. With a focus on technical business understanding, this general business degree allows for a broad study of four disciplines: Finance, Information Systems, Management and Marketing. This program gives students the flexibility in deciding which best fits their interests. The concentration in Aging Services Management fosters the development of leadership skills in the realm of aging services. The aging demographic in our region, state and beyond presents business opportunities that serve older adults in a variety of organizational settings, including the rapidly evolving workplace comprised of both older and multigenerational employees. This program is designed to provide foundational knowledge about aging and related issues that can be applied to relevant business interests to best meet the needs and desires of the nation’s elderly population. Elective coursework can be individualized based on specific interests in aging and may include advanced reading, research or applied engagement within the community. Bachelor’s Degree in Biology “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” ― Carl Sagan Program Overview The Biology degree program at USF Sarasota-Manatee offers students hands-on experience both in the lab and out in the field–the experience necessary to pursue a career in many fields related to biology and the knowledge required to pursue graduate-level studies. Biology students at USFSM also have access to coursework offered through a partnership with Mote Marine Laboratory, where they can work side-by-side with working professionals in the marine science industry. Graduates of this program demonstrate knowledge in three sub-disciplines of biology: cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, and ecology and evolution. Students are consistently engaged in the scientific process through the planning, execution and interpretation of laboratory or field studies. With a degree in hand, our students are able to analyze ethical challenges and practices in the biological sciences, perform qualitative and quantitative analyses to evaluate scientific information, and demonstrate communication skills necessary for oral and written presentations of biological research. Are you always motivated to find answers to in-depth questions? If so, a degree in Biology will open the right doors for you. Biology is one of the fastest-growing academic disciplines at USFSM. Our professors in the College of Science and Mathematics teach both lecture and laboratory-based sections. This allows faculty to get to know students on an individual basis. Many of our faculty members also conduct research each year and often invite students to collaborate in their investigations. Mote Marine Laboratory USFSM’s Biology program collaborates with the world-renowned Mote Marine Laboratory, allowing students to be immersed in ongoing research and community engagement in the marine sciences. Research scientists from Mote also teach various courses in the USFSM Biology program. These experiences prepare our students to be competitive for an even wider range of graduate programs and professional schools.
