Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice major prepares students for careers as well as advanced studies through a combination of courses in criminal justice, psychology, and sociology, providing an interdisciplinary understanding of the nature of crime as well as the processes that prevent and respond to crime. Additionally, the program considers justice principles and methods of social control and their applications to various areas within the criminal justice system. [+]

Criminal justice is a broad field, encompassing everything from traditional work in local law enforcement, courts, and corrections to privately run non-profit intervention and prevention programs. Graduates from Fisher College’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program enter the workforce with a strong social science background that prepares them for traditio nal criminal justice careers, careers as crime analysts and policy analysts, and further education at the graduate level. The program incorporates core foundational topics that provide an overview of the criminal justice system with advanced coursework in criminology, research and statistics, and ethics as well as a variety of interesting program electives and special topics courses. Students are exposed to the interdisciplinary nature of the field through courses such as Forensic Psychology and Psychology of the Criminal Mind, which illustrate the role of psychology in the criminal justice system; and cour ses such as Social Justice, Race, and Gender that illustrate the role of sociology in the criminal justice system. CO-CURRICULAR COMPONENT The Criminal Justice Program at Fisher College has a strong co-curricular component. Students have the opportunity to engage in criminal justice research with the Center for Leadership in Public Service where students and faculty have recently conducted research on hate crimes and sexual assault. Students also have had the opportunity to co-author and co-present scholarly research at both regional (Eastern Sociological Society Annual Meeting and the Massachusetts Association of Crime Analysts Annual Meeting) and national (American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting) conferences. The Fisher College Fashion Merchandising concentration, will prepare you for a career in the dynamic field of fashion and the many associated businesses. To accomplish this, we often step outside of the classroom and take you on field trips that include meetings with executives in top firms in the Garment District of New York City, consultations with entrepreneurs located right here in our great city of Boston, and visits to apparel businesses that operate in the outlying suburbs. We also bring business experts directly to you by way of a myriad of guest speakers who share the paths they took to reach their career goals. This program is a concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Management degree, which ensures that you will have a well-rounded education in all areas of business to support your extensive knowledge in the fashion industry. PROGRAM MISSION We make use of and build on the liberal arts foundation to develop students who have strong analytical skills, and who are able to think, write, and communicate clearly and effectively.
