The Hotel and Event Management course is the classic hotel management bachelor course combined with event management. You can obtain your BBA in just three years. Naturally, you will have to invest a great deal of time and energy into your studies. That includes the summer months, when you will doing your work placement. About 60% of the course is practical: projects and practical subjects. Learn how to cook in the cooking studio, take a close look at festivals and events, develop your communication skills within small groups and run a hotel. In addition you will be taught by lecturers with practical experience, you will complete two work placements and you can opt for a practical-oriented minor. Tio is a nationwide organisation that has made a conscious choice to keep its locations small-scale. The lecturers and staff are easily approachable, everyone knows everyone and there’s a good atmosphere. During your study course you have a great deal of choices: where you complete your work placement, your role within projects, which minors to pick and the subject of your final thesis. During the Hotel and Event Management course, you can live wherever you choose and you don’t need to share a room. You will have 27 contact hours per week on average, except the final year in which you will graduate. You will also receive excellent support during projects through scheduled support hours. In addition, you can also opt for homework assistance. Classes consist of a maximum of 20 students and practical skill classes of 10 students. In the 2013-2014 academic year, the average number of students weighted across the whole of Tio, was 11 per class. Tio collaborates intensively with the industry. Tio also employs lecturers who are professionals from the industry, therefore they know exactly what is going on in the various sectors. These trends are reflected in the curriculum. Tio is a front runner in the field of E-business and Event Management due to its associate professorships. The Hotel and Event Management course offers many opportunities. Many students complete their work placements abroad, you participate in an international study trip in the third year, and you can also study at partner universities abroad for one or two semesters. Tio carefully maintains the excellent quality and high level of education and can therefore assure you of an internationally recognised BBA degree. Hotel and Event Management students are known for their dedication and excellent communication skills. Study Programme During the bachelor course, the key phrase is practical orientation - learning by doing. In the first year, the focus is on practical hotel skills and professional competence, hospitality at its foundation. You will learn all about hotel and restaurant formulas and you will learn about preparation techniques in the cookery studio. You will visit various hotels, for example the Okura, Librije’s Hotel or the Hilton, among others during a study trip in the third year. Event management is a recurring theme throughout the course. You will learn all about event organisation, and event management also features in subjects such as event marketing, sports and festival management, MICE and communication. During the event week, you will compete in an event game; as part of a team, where you will create a concept for a business or a charity. You will also take a look behind the scenes at events and businesses and you attend workshops. You will attend a festival, concert, sports competition or theatre performance and report back on the organisation of the event. Your communication and management skills will be developed, so that you are able to run a hotel for a week along with your fellow students during the hotel and event week. You will be responsible for F&B, rooms division, front office, revenue management and organisation of events. Guest lectures from heads of industry, marketing projects and the preparation of a business plan will equip you to become a successful entrepreneur. You will also advise a company. Reasons why students chose International Business Management at Tio University. The International Business Management bachelor course offers many opportunities to gain international experience. Many students complete a work placement abroad. You will attend lectures from international guest lecturers, meet people from other cultures and visit a partner university abroad during one of the two international study trips. You can also complete one, or if you are following the four-year programme, two semester(s) at Tio’s international partner universities. Finance is a recurring theme throughout the study course. For instance the Stocks & Bonds and Trading & Investments projects will teach you all about stocks, shares, futures and securities. In a real life setting, you will learn to understand developments in the macro-economy by means of a management game. In a Stocks & Bonds project you will acquire your own portfolio with stocks and shares. The students that achieve the highest returns go head-to-head in the final. You will visit national and international businesses listed on the stock exchange, such as banks and motor vehicle manufacturers. You will conduct market research and produce an international strategic advice report in which you propose recommendations for a company. Through role-playing you will master the art of negotiation, sales and product presentations and learn about conducting business with other cultures. In the first year, during your first international study trip, you will visit a partner university and international businesses.
