Programme Students learn on the job Students learn all about plants and animals Students learn about business in an international context In the first year students have courses about the production processes of plants and animals in class as well as ‘on the job’. They will have the chance to apply their knowledge in practice. In the second year, students also focus on business and management. In the third year, students are provided with the opportunity to apply all the theory and practical experience gained in the first two years in an internship and study, in the Netherlands as well as abroad. In the graduation year, students specialize in a subject of choice. Students cooperate closely with Dutch and international students, and will learn to communicate in English and Dutch fluently. For this reason, students will be trained in English as well as Dutch from day one. Job Prospects Career prospects for International Farm Management graduates are very diverse. There is plenty of work within the agricultural sector, in the Netherlands and far beyond. As an independent entrepreneur, manager or consultant you can contribute to the global food supply. But the demand for your knowledge doesn’t stop at the milk, meat and vegetable sector. There are numerous challenges in the area of the living environment as well. People love to have an attractive garden and houseplants and those flowers have to come from somewhere. And you can take care of that! Careers for International Farm Management professionals are: Entrepreneur In this position you are the owner of your company that can be small or bigger. You take the strategic decisions to serve your customers for the best. The company may relate to agribusiness, but can also be active in other fields of business. Consultant / adviser You train in IFM the skills needed, to start as a junior advisor in agri business or related fields of interest. When you experience grows and your skills develop you will be able to advice about more complex and strategic projects as eg starting a new company in a new field of business. Manager, specialist There are also many interesting jobs in companies as banks, seed companies, technical supply companies. You can work here as a product specialist, marketer, manager, to many jobs to mention here, with plenty opportunity to grow and develop yourself in the company or a further career. Farmer You can take over a company or start one yourself. Up to your ambition and the possibilities you see in the market. There is a growing demand for agricultural products. You will still also need everything you can earn in IFM to be able to avoid or stand the pressure of competition. There are many entrepreneurial people needed in the business. People that combine commercial and production skills and know the business well. Admission Requirements The admission requirement for this 4-year Bachelor programme is a secondary school diploma, equivalent to the Dutch HAVO diploma, with the final-year subject mathematics. Practical (work-) experience is beneficial but not obligatory. The level of your diploma will be assessed after HAS has received your complete application form. Requirements British students At least 4 subjects at GCSE level (A-C) and at least 2 subjects at GCE with 2 subjects at advanced subsidiary level (in 6 different subjects). No mathematics in your final year? If you are deficient in Mathematics you have the opportunity to participate in the Mathematics deficiency test. Please note that after you have passed the deficiency test you will not receive a diploma or certificate. If you pass the test, you will meet the admission requirements and will therefore be admitted to the programme. To pass the test you need to have obtained at least 5.5 points on a scale of 1-10. [-]
