Häme University of Applied Sciences is authorised by the Government of Finland, and is situated centrally in the most populated area of the country, southern Finland, where about half Finland's population live.

HAMK: Higher Education with a Professional Profile​​ About the Program The Construction Engineering degree programme allows students to focus on structural engineering or environmental technology. At HAMK, structural engineering focuses on steel construction. Steel Constructions studies include mechanics, mathematics, technical drawings and CAD. Understanding of the structures, and 3-D visualization skills will develop during the studies. During the studies (Steel Constructions) it is possible to achieve credits required by A-class structural engineer qualifications: Structural mechanics – 16 credits Concrete construction and technology – 8 credits Concrete structure engineering – 8 credits Steel structure engineering – 8 credits Wood structure engineering – 12 credits Construction physics – 5 credits Demand for international construction experts is increasing continuously in international construction projects in Finland and abroad. ​In addition to houses, construction engineering is applicable in our built-up environment to traffic corridors and water and waste management, for example. The tasks of engineering graduates may be related to the construction of new premises and to the repair of existing structures in engineering or project management in Finland and abroad. Daily tasks may involve design, product development, supervision in an official capacity, or trading. Construction professionals constantly monitor developments in the sector, they are familiar with the latest design and production techniques and can manage modern management techniques, and they are capable of applying them to practical situations at work. Construction engineers must have a view of the entire construction process in addition to their speciality. Work requires, in addition to professional knowledge management, problem-solving abilities, financial thinking, management skills, cooperation skills, IT skills and language skills. A degree completed in English provides construction engineers with good language skills and international know-how, making it possible to work anywhere in the world. There are additional possibilities to study abroad by completing a Double Degree, partly at HAMK and partly at Danish VIA University College. HAMK: Higher Education with a Professional Profile​​ About the Program ​An engineer specialised in Electrical and Automation Engineering knows how to plan electrification and automation both for ordinary household appliances as well as complicated industrial production equipment. There are two alternate learning paths available for automation engineering students: production machinery automation and production process automation. The engineer knows how to utilise information and electrical technology in developing automation technology in new applications. Vehicles, shops, homes, industry, traffic control and street lighting are examples of the ​most common applications of electrical and automation engineering. Instruction in electrical and automation engineering focuses on wide-ranging studies in electrical engineering, the automation of production machinery and devices, and the maintenance of production facilities. The possibilities offered by new technology are utilised in the instruction, in the practical studies that include plenty of personal, first-hand activity. In the English-language degree for Automation Engineering, the focus is on utilising automation engineering in new areas of application. The efficient and inexpensive new data technology devices in particular offer many interesting opportunities for automation technology. An electrical and automation engineer typically works in a high-tech company in tasks involving planning and expertise, and later, as experience mounts, in various supervisory tasks. Such tasks are available in production facilities, design and consulting offices and companies specializing in software and hardware sales. The work is nearly always group work with experts from different fields in an international working environment. In Production Machinery Automation students learn about the most important functions and equipment for the production of parcelled goods as well as efficient and cost-effective equipment technology based on new-technology microcontrollers. Professional Skills of Automation Engineering The professional skills of an engineer of electrical and automation engineering (B​Eng) consist of several sub-sectors. Their content is briefly described below. Basic skills in electrical and automation engineering comprise measuring technology, data and software technology in the electric and automation field, mathematical methods, physics and electronics. Planning skills include processes, methods, and tools for planning, simulation methods, sizing and choosing devices and components, drafting documents, applying standards, quality systems and life-cycle thinking. Electricity and equipment safety skills include key legislation, regulations and standards related to electricity and equipment safety. Corporate and production skills include project activities, people management, entrepreneurship, marketing, and maintenance. Application skills include electrical and electric energy systems, building automation process automation, production automation, and on a general level, the application of technology to new ranges of use. Process, equipment, and system skills include the most important methods and equipment for electricity production, the most common production processes and machinery, the sensors, transmitters, and regulating units to be used in them, as well as guidance and regulatory systems. International Business Study Modes 8-16 and 18-100 Study Modes This theory is supported by practice which forms the basis of the University of Applied Sciences studies. The Degree Programme in International Business provides a flexible combination of theory and practice to prepare you for an international career. The main method used in teaching is learning-by-doing. A student centred focus is predominant in the degree programme, and to support this we offer the 8-16 (full-time) and 18-100 (part time) study modes: 8-16: The student will study each day between the hours of 8-16, and will accumulate credits on a weekly basis. The student will receive guidance and support throughout their study period, and will work together in teams/groups that will simulate the workplace environment.. 18-100: The student will have contact lessons approximately once a month in the Friday evenings and on Saturdays. Teaching method will be close to flipped class room so that the student is able to combine his daily work into given assignments. The study method requires independence as well as the capability of working in teams. Double Degree Opportunities International Business Degree Programme currently has five double degree partners in three countries and we are continually working to increase this. Studying for a double degree means that your third year of study will be conducted at the partner university, and after completion, you would receive two Bachelor Degrees; one from HAMK and one from the partner University.
