Introduction

Who we are

  • We are part of the University of Economics in Prague.
  • Faculty members of the Economics Faculty develop wide range of fields in economic theory in close co-operation with other domestic and foreign universities.
  • Faculty academics can and could also be found in prestigious positions of state and advisors on matters of economic policy, in public administration as well as the private sector. To name but a few – Prof. Ing. Robert Holman, CSc., Ing. Pavel Řežábek, Ph.D. and prof. Ing. Kamil Janáček, CSc as Vice-governors of the Czech National Bank, or doc. Ing. Jiří Schwarz, CSc. as a National Economic Council member.
  • The Faculty of Economics also hosts noted experts on the interface of theory and practice – e.g. prof. Ing. Václav Klaus,CSc, Ing. Miroslav Singer, Ph.D., Ing. Dušan Tříska , CSc., prof.Ing. Karel Dyba, CSc., doc.Ing. Tomáš Ježek, CSc. and others.

Standard of Quality

For many years, the Faculty has ranked among the best institutions for economic education in Czech Republic in terms of published research, proportion of courses taught in English, courses by visiting top international academics, and many other indicators.

In the 2011 ranking of all Czech economics faculties and departments by the leading Czech economic newspaper (“Hospodarske noviny”), the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics ranked the best school for economics in the Czech Republic.

Many domestic Faculty professors serve also as leading figures of Czech public life, holding important posts on the Board of Governors of the Czech Central Bank, on the Czech Economic Council, as advisors to government ministers, etc.

Program Objectives and Basic Information

In the academic year 2012/2013, a new English degree program, Economics and Business Administration, major Economics was opened by the Faculty of Economics, the primary faculty at the University of Economics, Prague. The main objective of the program is to create qualified professional economists who will be able to jump into the public and private sectors nationally or internationally. These professionals will have a strong base in economics, legal sciences and other social disciplines with a special emphasis on international economics and politics. They will also gain a practical knowledge of English through constant, applicable use. With a sufficient and varied base, the graduates from this program will be able to respond to the ever-changing and increasingly demanding requirements of business practices and labor markets, both nationally and internationally. This program is aimed at talented local and foreign students who want, above all, to continue in master’s programs and disciplines that are taught in English at the University of Economics, as well as students who want to continue their studies abroad. ...
