Thus, METU / ODTÜ is the first and only Turkish university ranked among the top 100 universities.

Since its establishment in Ankara in 1956, the university had over the years trained thousands of international students in addition to its one hundred thousand national alumni. In 2005 METU has established a new campus in Northern Cyprus under the name Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus (METU NCC) with a more focused international mission.

METU Northern Cyprus Campus is attached to the main campus in Ankara in all academic and administrative affairs. All degree programs of METU NCC are approved by the METU Senate, and provide the same quality standards of the main campus in Ankara.

The medium of instruction at both METU campuses is English and the credit-hour system is employed. Academic Year commences in September and consists of two semesters ending in mid-June, plus an optional Summer Session. Students are admitted to both Fall and Spring semesters.

Duration of undergraduate study is four academic years (eight semesters) for all undergraduate degree programs and two years (four semesters) for master programs.

Tuition fee waiver scholarships are offered to successful applicants for undergraduate programs applying with results/scores considerably higher than minimum required for application, cover 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of the tuition.

As for Master programs applicants: there are two basic forms of financial support that METU NCC is able to offer its graduate students; first are Scholarships (which partially or wholly cover tuition fees); and second is Assistantships (which provide wages for assistantship work and/or some additional benefits.

Being a state university, the cost of education – even for international students- is subsidized; therefore the tuition is highly cost-effective and competitive.

METU NCC campus is located approximately 50 km west of Lefkoşa (Nicosia), and is built on a magnificent hill with an area of 339 hectares (137 acres). In addition to its state-of-the-art education and lab facilities, METU NCC offers all the amenities of high-tech information services, such as digital library, widespread access to computing, high-speed internet and cable TV. Indoor and outdoor sports facilities, the Cultural and Convention Center, cafeteria, and shopping area provide a pleasing range of social, cultural and sports facilities to the staff and students.

Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering Aerospace Engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the design, manufacturing, testing and performance evaluation of air and space craft for atmospheric or orbital flight; such as the airplanes, helicopters, missiles, rockets and satellites. Aerospace engineers apply the principles of science and technology to create both air and space vehicles and systems. They do research and development work to create novel air and space craft by designing their detailed schematics and keep records of their performance for future reference and test and validate the designed prototypes to make sure that they function according to their design. Aerospace Engineering program allows the students to get specialized in four major fields of study related to “Air and Space Systems”: Aerodynamics: the engineering discipline dealing with the interaction between the flying systems and the fluid in which they are moving. Structure: the engineering discipline which studies the science of forces and moments acting on the aircraft and spacecraft. Propulsion: the engineering discipline dealing with the study of generation of the required thrust/propulsion to move the vehicle in question either in the air or in outer space. Control: the engineering discipline dealing with the control and stability of the flying system while perfoming a defined mission in a controlled manner. Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering The mission of the METU is to reach, produce, apply and promote knowledge, and to educate individuals with that knowledge for the social, cultural, economic, scientific, and technological development of our society and humanity. This is to be done by bringing teaching, research, and social services up to the universal standards. Civil Engineering is the art and sciency of planning and developing the built environment that forms the infrastructure of civilization. In this connection, civil engineering encompasses analysis, design, and scientific research in a variety of fields such as structural mechanics, construction materials, geodesy, hydromechanics, water resources, costal and ocean, transportation, geotechnics, and construction management. The METU NCC Civil Engineering curriculum has been designed and based on current trends in engineering programs as well as the needs of Middle Eastern countries, and comprises a series of compulsory and elective courses in the areas of structural mechanics, water resources, geotechnics, construction materials, transportation, construction management, and geodesy. Current state of the construction industry indicates that engineers must be able to work with and within other cultures. Regional, national, and international issues are important in how major projects are designed, built, and operated, and in assessing how environmental effects transcend political boundaries. BSc in Political Science and International Relations METU NCC is amongst a distinctive and select number of world universities which brings together the study of Political Science on the one hand and International Relations on the other hand in a combined and systematic programme of study. The aim of the Bachelor of Science degree programme in Political Science and International Relations is to encourage and allow students to acquire the analytical skills to examine critically the organisation and expressions of political power, social power, economic power and cultural power that is, power in all its human expressions. Where Political Science was traditionally concerned with the study of power within states and International Relations was traditionally concerned with the study of power between states, here in the PSIR programme at METU NCC we are concerned with examining the totality of these expressions of power. To that end, not only will undergraduate students be offered foundational courses in Political Science and International Relations thereby anchoring their knowledge in both traditions of enquiry but they will be encouraged to examine and explain the development of more complex expressions of global power. Thus their primary concern will be the interaction between domestic politics, state behaviour and the international system and international society, and the issues these raise for the future of international relations in a world of changing economies, social structures, technologies, environments and ideologies. It is the aim of this programme, therefore, to provide students with a thorough knowledge of the processes and practices which characterise the relations of power within states and between states whilst encouraging students to examine the combined development of world history. On the basis of a firm foundation in study of government, economy and society, international history, and political and social theory, as well as law, students will then progress to a more interdisciplinary analysis of more specialist fields of enquiry. Having also completed a special course in research methods in social and political sciences, students will be guided through focused study in social and political theory, political economy and war and peace studies as well as being offered a number of electives across a range of specialisms. The syllabus is designed to enable the student to examine and explain the complexities and processes that make up global power relationships, including analysis of the history, organisation and dynamics of state institutions and international instutions. Students will be able to examine the development, structural characteristics and crises in a wide range of political settings and political issues. In addition to the subject-specific study of Political Science and International Relations students will gain from the PSIR programme at METU NCC : A commitment to learning which will be life-long. Students will leave our programme equipped with the means to continue in critical enquiry and learning for years after they graduate, that will enable them to deal with problems in a critical and reflective manner in whichever walk of life they pursue; A set of practical skills introduced and developed during the programme which will allow students to write properly in a number of different styles and for different purposes, feel confident in giving oral presentations in English, develop research and investigation skills, including the use of electronic resources, and promote organizational and timetabling skills. A capacity to conduct analyses of critical and routine problems in a scientific, logical, evidence-based and critical manner, consistent with the founding METU principles that there should be no hindrance to the discovery and sharing of new knowledge [and] an environment should be created in which research, creativity and student self-development can be fostered. Formal Description of the PSIR program The PSIR programme has four levels, normally corresponding with four years of study. The anticipated normal duration of study will therefore be four years (or eight semesters), though a maximum of 14 semesters is possible. The language of instruction, study and examination for all credit courses is English. Typically students will be registered for 5 courses per semester, though there are some minor variations especially in the first and second year. The credit norm for each PSIR course is 3 credits. BA in Psychology In a nutshell, psychology is the study of mind and behaviour. The discipline embraces all aspects of human experience, from functions of the brain to group behaviour, developmental issues from infancy to old age, from romantic relationships to relationships within the workplace, from drivers’ and pilots’ decision making processes to consumer choices. The knowledge of psychology is put into practice in a variety of contexts such as neuropsychology laboratories, mental health clinics, human resources departments, flight or driving simulators, nursing home and kindergartens. METU Northern Cyprus Campus Psychology Program The undergraduate program is designed to acquaint students with a broad knowledge of and basic skills in the main fields of psychology. Of these, eight courses are departmental courses in psychology that aim to provide students with in-depth knowledge in their respective areas of interest in psychology.
