Training Program in Studio Arts

Metàfora Art School

Metàfora offers a complete Training program for students who wish to pursue a career as artists. This option can be considered as a valid alternative to a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (BFA). [+]

Bachelors in Fine Arts Studies. “I think art, if it’s meaningful at all, is a conversation with other artists. You say something, they say something, you move back and forth.” John Baldessari Metàfora’s Training Program in Studio Arts Metàfora offers a complete Training program for students who wish to pursue a career as artists. This option can be considered as a valid alternative to a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (BFA). Art is about understanding the way an idea is communicated to you. Art is about discovering the potential of a material or a form, but also about challenging beliefs before they become too rooted. Metàfora’s Training Program encourages students to investigate intuitively through techniques and materials, but we also support artists who engage in conceptual analysis, breaking conventional frames and narratives. What is important is the wish for thinking and growing, a need for understanding the now. What is the Training Program: aims and objectives The Training Program in Fine Arts is divided into two sections: Year 1 (Certificate in Studio Arts ) and Year 2-3 (Diploma in Studio Arts / Advanced Diploma in Studio Arts). Any of the 3 years of the training program can be undertaken independently (admission according to general admission requirements). Metàfora’s Training Program is small and intimate in comparison with the big universities worldwide, and this carries with it a series of advantages: the International Workshop offers a homely studio atmosphere where all students are attended individually. The scheduled activities are designed as a flexible support around the creative practice of each student rather than vice-versa. While encouraging both aesthetic concerns and conceptual investigation, the aim of the program is to help students acquire the necessary tools for independent artistic investigation. Metàfora’s training program provides a rich environment for growth and opportunity in the current, vibrant art scene. Among the activities specifically designed for these students are several exhibitions, both on-campus projects, as well as events and projects in different commercial galleries and institutions around Barcelona.
