Through a variety of acting opportunities and experiences on the live theatre stage, in the television studio and on film location, the DTF Major strives to develop the intellectual, aesthetic and creative potential of students as well as prepare students for graduate studies.Students majoring in DTF will experience the following

Above all, they must be visual storytellers.Every aspect of Art Center’s Film curriculum focuses on the mastery of movie-making skills in order to serve the narrative. Located minutes from Disney, Warner Bros., NBC Universal, ABC, Paramount and the Burbank Media District, our department enjoys an unusually high percentage of accomplished filmmakers on our faculty roster. Students begin shooting immediately, with access to HD, 16mm, 35mm and the latest digital post-production tools.Class sizes are small, fostering close, mentoring relationships between instructor and student. We host several guest lectures by studio heads and A-list filmmakers each term. Students specialize in one of three tracks—cinematography, directing or editing—and frequently collaborate with students from other disciplines.Our architecturally striking campus, on a wooded hillside above Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, is an ideal place for location shooting. You will have an opportunity to explore the practice, history, theory, and analysis of film production and film art. With an emphasis on collaboration and innovation, you will be encouraged to embrace all elements of film production, from the technical craft to narrative, experimental, and documentary approaches to your own unique creative vision. This program’s emphasis on one-on-one instruction enables you to study independent film production models that focus on the art of cinema.
