Within Stage II we will not only get you to apply your Stage I skills in a deeper context, but help you work within the contemporary creative media workforce. In Stage II we show you how your work contributes to and interacts with broader culture and media practice. This knowledge will enable you to work with a variety of other disciplines and artists and expand your potential on the global stage. You will complete a number of real-world projects with students not only in your own discipline, but in all other SAE disciplines. In Stage II, you will be given the opportunity to work as project specialists within the following areas. The types of projects and project roles you choose to undertake will determine what area of specialisation you fall within. Stage II has three studio modules with projects based on the following areas; 1. 3D Modelling In 3D Modelling, students will examine modelling techniques, terminology and methods. Students will develop and implement 3D production pipelines to create such things as environments, vehicles, creatures and characters. Students will need to research industry best practices and keep up to date with current trends in CGI production. This specialisation will further explore texturing and shading, lighting and rendering. 2. Character Animation In the Character Animation specialisation, students will focus on the principles of character animation such as posing, motion studies, body mechanics, facial animation and much more. Students will also learn to develop effective and user friendly animation rigs that serves as a means to control and animate a character, similar to the controls of a puppet. 3. Visual Effects In the Visual Effects specialisation, students will explore the areas of modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing with an emphasis on incorporating assets into a range of digital media. Students can investigate topics such as matchmoving, particle systems, dynamic simulations and colour grading. By the end of the course, students will be able to composite a range of disparate elements into a cohesive final product. Stage III Stage III is the final part of your studies. The degree is designed to produce graduates for the simulation, virtual worlds and games industries and provide professional game programmers with the skills and knowledge of a computer science degree contextualised by gaming applications, plus core skills in programming and design. This degree will provide you with specialist skills in digital game/simulation design and programming. You will create 2D and 3D interactive applications for entertainment and serious, real life scenario visualisation (virtual worlds). You will also learn how to research the market, develop business concepts and manage digital game/ simulation development projects. You could end up working as a 3D Games Programmer or Simulation Software Engineer — building interactive virtual worlds for real-world training and research! The degree is jointly delivered online by CIT and face-to-face in AIE Campuses. Prerequisites You must: have basic computing skills including being able to operate a personal computer, other hardware (for example printers, games consoles, PDAs etc), create and manage basic files, perform simple operating system tasks and work with more than one standard software package such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases or web browser. Concepts in acting, gesture, 2D and 3D form are also explored from the traditional to the digital, and from the roughly conceptual to the polished and professional. Students are also introduced to the visual language of filmmaking and explore the magic of effects and systems such as motion capture, one of the techniques used in some of the most recent blockbuster films. The 3D Animation unit delves deeper into the acting and storytelling aspects of the art.
