The William Peace University Pre-Law Program consists of inter-disciplinary courses that will help you hone the skills that law schools and the legal profession desire. You will develop your critical thinking, analytical writing and public speaking abilities in the courses. The Raleigh Experience is an innovative new program putting WPU students in the middle of the exciting world of North Carolina politics. All pre-law majors spend a semester working full time at four different sites related to the law profession. Students fill their contact lists with professional contacts as they spend their final semester of college working in four different full-time internships in the heart of the state capital. During the senior year, a WPU Pre-Law major will participate in an intensive (40 hours per week) learning experience, similar to a co-op program at other institutions. They will work for sponsoring organizations in three areas related to the law profession, which can include: advocacy/lobbying, governance, law, non-profit administration, politics, policy research, and public administration. During the semester, they will rotate through four, four-week practicums and be concurrently enrolled in their senior seminar course. One session a student might be helping legislators draft bills in the General Assembly. The next they could assist an attorney research as he or she prepares for trial. The Raleigh Experience gives students real skills and results that put them a step ahead of other law school applicants. And most of these opportunities are within walking distance of our campus. Instead of telling students what they need to learn, we invite them to build their own curriculum that fits their specific needs and interests. This major is not for students who are unsure of their direction but rather those who have a passion for learning in all forms. Through this multi-disciplinary approach, students are taught to ask questions, gather information and evaluate evidence. They're presented with challenging coursework that forces them to delve into difficult issues, confront moral problems and better understand the world they live in. With the breadth and depth this major offers students explore topics they might have otherwise overlooked. This experience provides a perspective students use to cultivate their own concentration and build a degree that fits their future goals. Students are required to take two critical thinking seminars as well as 30 hours in seven of the following eight liberal studies areas: English, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages, History, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Philosophy/Religion and Social Sciences.
