Bachelor in Engineering

Marian University and IUPUI provide our engineering students the technical knowledge, educational breadth and human skills to make them leaders in their fields. [+]

Bachelor in Engineering Become an Engineer Engineering Leaders of the 21st Century In cooperation with Purdue University at IUPUI, Marian University offers a unique and rigorous engineering program where the graduate receives two degrees upon graduation—a bachelor of science in mathematics or chemistry from Marian University and a bachelor of science in biomedical, electrical, or mechanical engineering from Purdue. All of our engineering options are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Ask about motorsports, computer, and energy engineering, because we are working on developing those programs. Marian University and IUPUI provide our engineering students the technical knowledge, educational breadth and human skills to make them leaders in their fields. We are looking for students who not only want to be technically proficient but also want to lead their firms toward future success in the increasingly technical world. Apply Early! Students interested in the Dual Degree Engineering Program must complete their applications to Marian University no later than March 15! Mid-American Engineering Hub Biomedical Engineering DOW Agrosciences WILD Flavors Eli Lilly Roche Diagnostics Electrical Engineering RCA Klipsch Verizon Wireless Mechanical Engineering Rolls Royce SMC Yoh Why This Program? There are at least two very sound reasons for coming to Marian to study engineering, one immediate and one long-term. During your school years you will have the experience of a small, Catholic university and the way of living and relating with others characteristic of that environment. You will not be just another face in the crowd here. It’s personal, and our broad liberal arts foundation ensures you see the bigger picture. Simultaneously, you can take advantage of a larger, urban campus just minutes away and know that experience as well, while earning a world-class engineering degree. Long term, the return on the investment is significant for those who complete a program like this. Engineers are very employable, and with a math (or chemistry) degree alongside, you would compete well if the market narrows. The broad general education that comes with a Marian University degree also gives students different ways to see, understand, and interact with the world, and equips a graduate for positions of leadership and responsibility. Message from the President "This program provides a pathway for students at Marian University to earn an engineering degree—a degree very much in demand in today’s economy. We are confident that outstanding students seeking a stronger liberal arts foundation in this vibrant and faith-based community will thrive in this new program. This new partnership will attract talented students who desire an education that will prepare them to not only secure challenging and well-paid jobs upon graduation, but also a rich and rewarding life,” Daniel J. Elsener President of Marian University Life as a Dual Degree Engineer Complete the requirements for two separate bachelor's degrees in five packed years. Year One involves a common set of foundation courses that all engineers must study—Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics, of course; along with the First Year Seminar, English, Public Speaking, and an initial course in engineering design and 3-D modeling. Courses are very sequenced, so there's little flexibility during Years One and Two. Only students with some form of transfer credit for one or more of these will follow a different schedule during the first year. A common schedule maximizes mutual support. To enhance that mutual support, we expect first year engineering students to live on campus even if they hail from the Indianapolis area. Classes One course at IUPUI in the fall of Year One. Most students stay on Marian University's campus for the remainder of Years One and Two. During these two years you mature as a person and scholar while enjoying the benefits of our smaller, more personal environment. In Year Two you will take some major-specific courses, but the common math and physics path continues. Beginning in Year Three, our engineers take classes on both campuses and dive into more advanced work that builds on the first two years' foundation material. Sports Many of our engineering students participate in intercollegiate sports. The schedule during Years One and Two accommodates our athletic practice time. Beginning in Year Three athletes may need to make some compromises in order to attend afternoon engineering classes. Coaches understand that the phrase 'student-athlete' is in priority order. Dual Enrollment Not a traditional 3-2 arrangement, where students spend three years at one institution, then transfer to complete their program. Accepted students enroll at both Marian University and IUPUI from the start. One introductory course at IUPUI in the first semester, Mechanical and aspiring biomedical engineers will take all of their other courses at Marian University during their freshman and sophomore years. Electrical engineers will begin taking classes at IUPUI in the spring of their second year. Access to career and internship services at Marian University, IUPUI, and Purdue - West Lafayette Dual Degree Engineering Program Admission Requirements Note, these requirements apply only to the Dual Degree Engineering Program (DDEP). In view of the intense academic demands of this program, students seeking admission to the DDEP must meet higher minimum requirements than other students applying for admission to Marian University, or to engineering at IUPUI. Those are: - Core 40 or Academic Honors Diploma, OR - 8 semesters of mathematics including pre-calculus, trigonometry, or math analysis. Calculus is encouraged. - 8 semesters of English - 6 semesters of science with labs including a year of chemistry. Physics is strongly encouraged. - 6 semesters of social science - 4 semesters of additional college prep courses selected from mathematics, English, science, foreign language, and social sciences. - Minimum SAT scores of 600 math and 530 verbal/critical reading OR - ACT scores of 26 math and 22 English. Completion of the writing section is also required. - Timely submission of the Marian University application plus the Marian University - IUPUI DDEP application. Note that these are minimums, and we strongly encourage additional preparation in math and science. In particular, students should make every effort to take physics in high school. Mathematically, both degree programs begin with calculus I. This program is not a fit for students not prepared to study calculus in the first semester. Understand that applying to, and being accepted to Marian University does not guarantee acceptance into the DDEP. A student whose scores fall below those listed here may still be accepted into the university, but not into this program. [-]

Bachelors 2017 in Indiana USA. Bachelor in Accounting Hands On Accounting Many of the accounting students at Marian University choose to take the CPA Exam.Students from any university must accumulate 150 credit hours before they take the exam. Here is the difference at Marian. Our flexible program allows you to choose whether you accumulate the 150 hours over eight, nine, or ten semesters. Most universities tell you that you will spend ten semesters at their university to accumulate the 150 credit hours. You will work with an accounting adviser to develop a plan that allows you to choose eight, nine, or ten semesters to graduate with an accounting degree and be eligible to take the CPA Exam. Another difference is that Marian University offers a full-time accounting internship in which students earn twelve credits. Internships are typically with accounting firms during the spring semester. Why are twelve credits important? The students in our full-time accounting internship program are full-time students for financial aid, insurance, and on campus living requirements. So, our students in the full-time accounting internships do not take any other classes and are able to: 1. Concentrate on this outstanding opportunity to learn from experienced professionals; 2. Travel if their work assignments require; and 3. Work overtime to help their firm deal with the period when the firm faces its highest volume of work. An added advantage for Marian accounting students is that they do not interrupt their living arrangements during the academic year, since many full-time internships exist in the Indianapolis area. Another difference is that the Becker CPA Exam Review is a part of the Marian accounting curriculum at no additional cost. The Becker CPA Exam Review is the largest provider for CPA Exam preparation materials in the world. Accounting students interested in taking the CPA Exam can elect to take the Becker CPA Exam Review in their last Marian semester as a part of their full-time tuition! An additional benefit it is that Marian students prepare for the CPA Exam with their accounting student friends. Employment Outlook Employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow by double digits over the next 10 years. Job opportunities should be favorable; accountants and auditors who have a professional certification, especially CPAs, should have the best prospects.
