The program of specialty Global Studies in International Relations is unique in Poland and one of only few such a programs in Europe. It is directed to all foreign and Polish candidates who would like to understand the mechanisms of globalization, the dependences between the local and global events and phenomenons. General description The main assumption of global studies is to concentrate on the globalization as a main research and teaching subject. It does not analyse globalization form the point of view of the national state. Instead global studies put globalization in the centre and study it as a complex and autonomous process which imposes the specified and similar conditions to all national and international actors. Global Studies are hardly defined by the assumptions and methods of any of contemporary sciences. Instead they have a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary character, as they join diverse theoretical approaches of economy, international relations, political sciences, anthropology, sociology, area studies, cultural and ethnic studies, but also some elements natural sciences such as the earth and life sciences or physics. Details of the program The program of Bachelor Studies offered by the Institute contains at least 2000 teaching hours, which is equivalent to 180 ETCS credits. To finish the study students are obliged to write Bachelor thesis under the supervision of one of the institutes's professors and defend it or pass Bachelor exam. The program of studies consists of the obligatory courses (general and related to the area of study), specialty courses and optional courses, which students choose according to their own interests. Students choose their optional courses before the start of each semester. Student have to collect 30 ECTS in each semester from obligatory courses, optional courses and workshops. The undergraduate program aims at equipping students with both theoretical knowledge about the past and origins of European cultures and conceptual tools to analyse cultural phenomena of nowadays societies. Flexibly organized set of courses (only few are obligatory, most of them elective by students) may present in synthetic picture of cultural diversity of the Continent. Students will learn consequences caused by cultural phenomena for past and contemporary social life in Europe. Consequences, which were and are visible in various sphere of life: starting with everyday life, through economy, psychological background of social movements, up to political and administrative systems. Lectures focus on universal laws and manifestations of cultural life of human societies but with a clear emphasis on specific elements of European past and present day situation. Students will be invited to make a common journey through European cultural heritage to learn how to analyse and understand not only the meaning of fine arts' objects, but mostly social phenomena based upon cultural relations. Therefore the proposed curriculum of study is focused on analysis of communication systems, values' transfer mechanisms, meaning of symbolic structures used in both everyday life and politics, cultural and political history seen as an impulse for change in social life etc. Participation in the program should strengthen students' knowledge of European culture and civilisations in context of social life and social needs. Our students will have an unique opportunity to attend the interdisciplinary course, consisted of lectures and seminars of ancient archaeology, cultural studies, history of art, history of Poland and Europe, social psychology, cultural and classical pedagogy and others.
