Bachelors 2017 in Velp Netherlands. Is it really possible for everyone to profit equally from development while still respecting the environment? In our view it is. Through sustainable trade, equal rights and equal opportunities we believe that a healthy balance between people, earth and prosperity can be achieved. The Bachelor of International Development Management gives you the knowledge and motivation to take steps towards promoting this balance. In your study programme, you can opt to focus on reconstructing society after natural disasters, empower people living in rural areas or contributing to fair economic chains from raw material to consumer. In all cases, you will learn to bring people together, defend interests of different stakeholders, and to facilitate and support developments and innovation. You will also learn more about geography, biology and economics. You will deal with intercultural communication, international cooperation, the green economy, reconstruction after disasters, strengthening the position of farmers, fair trade, business administration, and project management. In the first part of your studies, you will get to know the exciting field of International Development Management. In blocks, you will cover topics such as market-sector, international development, company-organisation and innovation, from the perspective of the study programme. You will also do a short work placement; you will deepen your knowledge and learn to apply it, for example by setting up your own company. In the course of the programme you will choose a specific focus, with a minor to deepen or broaden your knowledge and an internship to put that knowledge into practice. You will complete your study programme by carrying out a final thesis project in a company or organisation. After graduating from International Development Management, you could find work in a commercial or non commercial environment. You will have developed strong skills in working with people. Perhaps you will become a bridge builder between farmers and a supermarket, or between farmers and the government. Possible jobs include sustainable certification advisor, manager of a cocoa cooperative, food safety project manager and advisor on reconstruction following natural disasters. Professional fields: Sustainable Value Chains Disaster Recovery Management Rural Development and Innovation You will be following objective specific courses, doing practical periods and preparing an exciting graduation assignment. In the third or fourth year you will make a choice out of many available minors. A minor is actually a short course of your own choice. It can be specialistic or broad, in which case it can add to your interests and talents. The programme is competency based: each theoretical subject supports workgroup situations in which students tackle practical problems and explore workable solutions. This means that you will be active from day one, learning to work independently as you collaborate with others. The programme culminates in practical placements and a thesis project conducted in an international setting. [-]

The animal sector is highly dynamic on a worldwide scale. In the Netherlands alone, more than 400,000 people ride horses and over 70,000 companies are involved with them, resulting in a business turnover of 1.3 billion Euros. Another important sector of the Dutch animal industry is the livestock sector, which counts over 1.5 million dairy cows, 12 million pigs and 95 million chickens. Both the livestock and equine sector deliver excellent quality products and services. None of this would be possible if the fullest attention were not paid to the care, health and welfare of animals. Together with business management, marketing and innovation, these lie at the heart of this degree programme. These competences are becoming ever more important, considering that the livestock industry is currently undergoing intensification of farming on the one hand, and diversification of activities on the other. More and more farms are not only trying to increase production in a sustainable manner, but they are also adding extra activities to their core tasks as producers. A dairy farmer might for instance start up a campsite, offer recreational facilities or organise educational excursions. As an entrepreneur, service provider or consultant, you will be involved in all such changes, which means you will need expertise in several domains: breeding, trade, horsemanship, animal behaviour, sport and last but not least, sustainability and welfare. You will acquire an excellent understanding of animal and business management, of the various business types involved in the equine and livestock industries, and of the many suppliers they depend on. The sector needs well-trained specialists like you! Upon graduation, you will qualify for a wide range of jobs: as an entrepreneur or business manager, as a business advisor or as a supplier. You will also qualify for a job in the banking or insurance sector, or as an organiser of sporting events. You could become a manager, project manager or strategic policy assistant. Or how about a job with the British Horse Society? Almost everything is possible with this internationally focused degree programme, as it has been shown to open doors worldwide!
