Why study the Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (Honours) The Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (Hons) is a specialised program of study that prepares you for a career as a criminologist. You will study criminological theory, criminal justice, criminological research methods, criminal law and professional practice in criminology and criminal justice. Your program of study culminates in a fourth year of study that brings together theory, research and industry-relevant specialist skills to provide you with a sound platform for employment or further study. As a criminologist, you will understand how the justice system works, why people commit crimes, and have the skills and knowledge to contribute towards preventing and controlling crime and social problems that face contemporary society. This is a new program with staged introduction of new courses. Bachelor of Creative Technology (Audio Engineering and Sound Production)

The Bachelor Degree delivers advanced and applied explorations in electronics and acoustics, as well as the extension of sound concepts into mixed media such as television, film and radio. The aesthetic and cultural contexts of sound production are further explored through the development of strong critical thinking, acoustic analysis, listening and problem solving. Integration units are geared towards teamwork and are designed to encourage collaboration whilst enhancing technical skills and experience. Studio units focus on the transition to more self-directed folio building practice. In addition to studio time, students are required to apply planning, conceptual thinking and technical skills to the recording of an acoustic ensemble, outside of the traditional recording studio. Students are also encouraged to enhance their experience by collaborating with students from other departments, in particular with those from film and television, and music performance. Towards the final two trimesters, business and development studies build further on the individual aesthetics and creativity of students. Units at this level include more targeted skills in audio post-production, surround sound and large scale PA systems design. Studio units draw upon the students’ conceptual knowledge and technical skills to initiate and complete a soundtrack for a visual production. Students also have the opportunity to creatively experiment with their audio engineering and sound production craft in preparation of their show reel. This unit places students amongst high-end audio technology facilities and specialised outboard equipment, as found in premier studios around the world. Finally, students engage in research to develop their areas of interest and specialisation. This also enhances their potential for establishing and sustaining their professional practice opportunities. What Career will this Course prepare me for? As a result of the introduction and wide acceptance of wave form digital recording and editing systems such as ProTools, the Audio Industry has become increasingly specialised. The implication for those students embarking on a career in the industry requires that they have a broad understanding of varied operational styles, combined with as much practical operating experience as possible.
