You will be exposed to real-life experiences at two of TAFE Illawarra’s fully operational childcare centres located at our Wollongong and Shellharbour campuses. The course will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge in the areas of early childhood theory, practice, professional practice and leadership. You will experience planning and implementing developmental programs, preparing play and learning materials and helping children with their daily routine tasks and guiding children’s behaviour and social development. This is an industry-recognised qualification which will enable you to work in a variety of early childhood settings including long day care, preschool, integrated child and family services, early intervention services or as a Centre Director. The academic and theoretical content of this course is supplemented with practical work experience placement throughout the course which allows you to apply what you have learned in a real-world environment. The degree is structured over eight semesters, with full-time students required to complete five subjects per semester. Course Entry Requirements The equivalence of NSW Year 12. Students who completed NSW Year 12 HSC (Band 4 in 2 Unit English or equivalent is required). Academic IELTS 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0) or Certificate 4 in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at TAFE NSW or equivalent, or TOEFL (iBT) 79. Students who have completed the Diploma of Early Childhood and Care (25281) receive direct entry to Year 2 of the 4-year degree program with no English test required. [-]
