This three-year, full-time, intensive honours degree will provide each student with all the training necessary to become a professional actor through a series of skills based courses. Acting technique, voice, movement, and singing form the core subjects taught and practiced whilst classes in Dramaturgy and Text Analysis complement this learning. In order to emulate best practice of our associate drama school (RADA) the course is taught over nine semesters (three per annum) and over three years. Given the practical nature of the course, and the principal objective of training the actor’s body as an instrument as well as the creative imagination, the intensity of the training for actors means that a student can expect to be in class for approximately 35 hours per week and 36 weeks per annum. Additional commitment during production modules will also be required. Students must demonstrate deep physical, mental and emotional strengths in order become an actor. Assessment All modules in the first two years of the course are examined by continuous assessment. All modules in the final year of the course are examined both by continuous assessment and by final public performance. Mode of delivery All modules will taught through practical workshops, seminars and rehearsals. Core/elective curriculum As this is a professional training course for a very defined profession all modules are compulsory. However, within each module there are ample opportunities for individual personal development with individual tuition provided. Annual intake A minimum number of 12 and a maximum number of 16 students will be admitted each year. The Bachelor in Acting at The Lir is not part of the CAO point’s race. Professional development classes and an audition showcase will make up the remaining two modules. These are not assessed but are aimed to bridge the gap between the training of The Lir Academy and the world professional theatre, film, radio and television drama. Public Productions In their third year, students will be cast in a range of plays (from the classical and modern repertoires) directed by professional directors, including the Artistic Director. Classes will be in the form of rehearsals for a minimum of 30 hours per week and replicate the working environment of a professional theatre. Support in terms of individual tuition on a diagnostic basis in voice and movement will be provided. Students will rehearse for four weeks, followed by a get-in period of technical and dress rehearsals, and between 7-9 public performances to which directors, agents and the general public are invited to attend. Individual feedback from the Director and the Head of Acting, Voice and Movement, or their appointees will follow in the sixth week of each term. Students will perform in 6 productions over the course of their final year (2 per semester). One of these productions will be a short film shot both on set and location that will receive a public showcase. Core Skills and Career Preparation Throughout the final year, classes will take place that will enable students to continue to practice the core skills of voice and movement to help sustain them through the rigours and demands of the production modules. Further classes to enable students to prepare for a professional working life (including the preparation of show reels, CVs, auditions etc.) will be included. Classes will expand on the Acting & Text modules of Year Two relating to professional practice (such as Acting for Screen & Microphone). Audition Showcase Towards the end of the academic year students will prepare and rehearse with a professional director a showcase of scenes from a range of dramatic texts and/or songs for public presentation before an audience of agents, artistic directors, casting directors, and producers. Application process is now open Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre Degree This three-year honours degree, offered for the first time in 2017 subject to academic approval, will replace the existing two-year Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre which has been offered by The Lir Academy since 2012. This new degree course will continue to offer practice based training to students who are interested in a career in professional theatre, TV and film. It has been enhanced to provide increased opportunities in specialist areas within stage management and technical theatre (e.g. sound, lighting and construction), increased professional placements and a major research project relevant to a student’s choice of specialism. Classes on production management, design (set, lighting, costume and sound) and managing your own freelance business will also be introduced during the final year. Year one - Introduction Year one is designed to introduce students to practice based training in all technical departments including lighting, sound, prop making, scenic art, costume, set construction and stage management. Core skills based classes in theatre skills, theatre technologies and theatre studies will be complemented by practice based learning on in-house productions. Year two - Application Year two will see students apply the skills learned from their first year to a series of theatre and film productions, directed and designed by professional practitioners. Bridging courses The Department of Letters and Philosophy offers students a preparatory course in Latin Language to help students with no previous specific background in the language to reach the necessary level of linguistic knowledge. Students with a basic knowledge of the language but who during their high school education did not reach the level of competence required by the university may also attend the Latin preparatory course. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ITALIAN The three-year course of the School of Contemporary Arts, provides a good basic training and an adequate humanistic and scientific training in the field of production, organization and communication of the visual arts. In particular the activities of the course aim to develop a sound overall knowledge of the basics of the history of art - from the modern to the contemporary - and design methodologies and communication of the visual arts, from a plant to know the historical, literary and artistic culture which is the prerequisite for all appropriate specialist examination. The purpose of the joint study programme in Marketing and Media Art (hereinafter – joint programme, study programme) is to train creative and innovative specialists that meet the requirements of the dynamic and global labour market and create communication industry and marketing professionals who are able to practically realize their own art, media and business projects, or projects that were prepared by others, by working both individually and in a team. In the newly equipped audiovisual studio, a group of students will be able to create media products by performing a full range of functions at the same time, by sharing functions with each other and applying their knowledge provided by lecturers during theoretical lectures. The audiovisual studio can be used at the same time by: 3 video operators, video installer at the controls, sound operator, lighting designer, video director, screenwriter, studio artist and 2-3 make-up artists. This is only one group of the project. The technical basis of the creative workshop will allow to carry out projects in at least 4 directions – TV production filming, promotional production filming, production of photo and audio products. Competencies You will have knowledge in media communications and aesthetic forms, and will be able to analyze and evaluate them You will gain an understanding of enterprises, market economics, marketing knowledge and professional ethics You will improve the use of foreign languages ​​in professional activities You will be able to perform a research and apply its results You will be able to create, manage – plan, organize and carry out project activities in communications and creative industries You will be able to properly apply technique, technology and safety standards in the media industry You will be able to develop and present the concept of media projects individually or in a team, and design its communication objects and also gain other necessary professional competencies. Practice Students will be able to carry out their practical work in marketing and public relation departments of organizations in Lithuania, Bulgaria or any other EU country, as well as in business enterprises and organizations in the fields of media, communication and creative industries. International diplomas IUC has experience in the preparation of highly qualified specialists together with the higher education institution in the UK (Cardiff Metropolitan University) , Saint Etienne business school in France (Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Saint-Etienne) and with Stenden University in Netherlands. Career By completing the joint study programme in Marketing and Media Art , graduates will be able to work as sales, marketing and public relations specialists, who plan, prepare, coordinate and implement information dissemination programs in order to promote organizations, products and services, as well as represent companies that sell various technical, industrial, medical, pharmaceutical and ITR products and services. Joint programme graduates will be prepared to engage in media arts practice and to initiate and manage creative multimedia projects. Joint programme graduates can enrol in a master’s degree programme by completing additional studies and meeting the requirements of an appropriate university.
