This degree is for anyone excited by the explosion of community public health initiatives all over the UK that are aimed at improving people's health through strategies incorporating social change, reducing inequalities, changing public policies, new products and services, better housing, improved quality health care and local regeneration schemes. The programme is multidisciplinary, reflecting central government policies in public health. Anyone who has a strong sense of fairness will be interested in each of the specific core and optional subjects offered as part of this degree. The highlight for many students is the placement opportunity offered in the third year, where students spend time working with possible future employers. This programme is one of only two offered to undergraduates in London and the South East.
Our commitment to students does not end with graduation, as this degree programme has a strong focus on graduate employability and we are continually developing on existing links with health and social care providers to help direct graduates into work. We also work closely with professional bodies that represent the public health workforce nationally and this relationship has assisted with the development of this degree.
You will study Public Health from not just physical, but psychological and social perspectives too. Each course is designed to support you in developing an understanding of the wider social, political, environmental and financial, context that impacts individuals and communities health.
Each course assessment is aimed at developing the skills and competencies that you will need once in work. Examples include analysing data and documents, and producing reports or academic posters.
